Micronized zinc and iron oxides, and titanium dioxide help block UVA and UVB rays along with visible light to prevent sun damage. Most sunscreens were initially developed against burning and thus designed to protect against UVB rays (290-320 nanometers [nm]). Many of the newer sunscreens only protect to a wavelength of 345nm, falling short of full protection from UVA rays (320-400 nm), which can accelerate the aging of the skin.
